Which Gas Hotplate Size Is Right for Your Kitchen?

Choose the size of your hotplate based on how many pans you need working at the same time during your busiest service, rather than simply choosing the largest model that will fit.

A 2 burner gas hotplate is useful for lower-volume cooking or as an additional cooking station. A 4 burner gas hotplate gives you more flexibility when several dishes are being prepared at once, while a 6 burner gas hotplate provides more cooking positions for kitchens regularly using multiple pans during busy periods.

Think About Pan Size as Well as Burner Count

Burner count does not tell you everything about usable cooking space. If you regularly use large stock pots, saucepans or frying pans, check the overall dimensions and burner layout of the individual model to make sure your cookware can be positioned comfortably.

This is particularly important when several large pans need to be used together. A model with more burners only gives you additional capacity if the cookware you use can fit safely across the cooking surface.

What to Check Before Ordering

  • Number of burners needed during your busiest service
  • Overall dimensions and available counter space
  • Burner layout in relation to the cookware you use
  • Total gas power and supply requirements
  • Gas type and compatibility of the individual model
  • Ventilation, clearance and installation requirements

Gas Supply and Installation

Check the gas type and total gas power specified for the individual model against the supply available at your premises before ordering. Moving from a smaller to a larger hotplate can also increase the total gas demand, so an existing supply should not automatically be assumed to be suitable for a higher-powered model.

Commercial gas equipment should be installed and commissioned by a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements and applicable regulations.
